A visit to Athens, the classical capital of the Ancient World and the birthplace of Western Civillisation is an experience not to be missed. Here, past and present come together to offer one a wealth of experiences, sights, unforgettable memories and romance. High above the city stands the Aropolis with the proud and celebrated Parthenon as its crown jewel.
The dazzling beauty of the white marble columns have inspired poets throughout the centuries. At the foot of the Acropolis lie the whistling narrow streets of the Ancient Plaka district, famous for its tavernas. Here you can wine and dine beneath the stars and taste the nectar of the gods of yesteryear while listening to stirring Greek bouzouki music.
Within a days excursion of Athens one can visit amongst other places, the ancient theatre at Epidaurus, the Isthmus at Corinth and the oracle at Delphi whose prophecies governed Ancient Greece. At the bustling port of Piraeus one can find a cruise ship to take one to the breathtaking alluring Greek islands with their hidden coves, ancient temples and superb sun drenched beaches lapped by the Aegean Sea.
A Traditional Greek Welcome and "Philoxenia" (Hospitality) On arrival at Athens Airport, guests are greeted by our company hosts who arrange transfer to the Hotel. In the Hotels private banquet hall guests are entertained by a guitar trio while drinks are served. Flowers are presented to the ladies by a young couple in traditional Greek costume.
In each room guests will find a basket of fresh fruit, a bottle of local wine, mineral water and literature. At 8.00 p.m. a BBQ will be held by the pool, where Greek delicacies and unlimited local wine are served. A Bouzouki trio will accompany guests during dinner and a band will then play dance music all evening.
Discovering Athens A morning tour of Ancient Athens will include_once the Acropolis, Agora, Propylea and the Archaeological Museum. Lunch follows at Microlimano, a picturesque marina, where a variety of seafood and local wine will be served. Early in the evening guests will travel to CAPE SOUNION to imagine the marvel of Poseidon`s Temple at sunset.
In the western background, the temple`s lovely columns are illuminated by the crimson light of the setting sun as the sea and sun become as one at dusk. As the cliff and its Temple become silhouettes, the group adjourns to a BBQ party on a beach under the stars. At the banquet by torch light, grilled fish and meat, salads and other Greek speciallities will be served accompanied by the melodious sopunds of the guitars, bouzouki and the lapping waves.
Delphi - The Navel of the Universe A day journey to Delphi takes one through the towns of LEVADIA, OSSIOS LUCAS and ARACHOVA. At Delphi, a secluded spot set in one of the world`s most inspiring landscapes, you will visit Apollo`s hol city, with its renowned Delphic Oracle, the Apollo Pythio sanctuary, the ancient Athenian Treasury, the castalia spring and the Museum with the life - size bronze figure of the Charioteer.
In view of the magnificent Mount Parnassos, the partially restored ruins begin at the sacred spring and unfold down a mountainside between two colossal rock faces. Lunch at the Chalet Maniatis, a local taverna, dining on local specialities and wine, will offer a sweeping view of quivering silvery-green sea of olive groves and the deep blue Corinthian Gulf.
Return to Athens late in the afternoon, followed by dinner and entertainment at the hotel.
Mini Cruise to the Saronic Gulf Isles A day cruise by ship to the nearby islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra is an exciting introduction to the Greek islands. Aegina with the great Temple of Aphaia, the main town, its pine covered hills and valleys filled with vineyards and pistachio bushes is a true microcosm of ancient and contemporary Greece.
Hydra, the most famous of the Saronic islands, with precipitous little streets that are more like stairways zig-zagging down the hills, the patient donkeys climbing the streets with various burdens as there are no cars on the island and fishermen still repairing nets in the harbour. Poros harbour town`s white houses, that appear to tumble down the hill-side into the sea. Lunch will be served either on board the cruise ship or at Hydra. Return to Athens at 7.30 p.m. and later visit the famous Greek restaurant for a traditional Greek dinner accompanied by a guitar trio.
Journey back to Homeric Greece An excursion to Argolis on the Saronic Gulf coastal road, stopping at the famous Corinth canal that connects the Aegean and Ionian seas. A visit to the Homeric city of the Atreide, Mycenae, sung by the bards as a city rich in gold, with the Lion Gate, the Cyclopean Walls and the Royal tombs. Then traverse the fertile Argos plains, to Nafplio, Greeces first citadel, a picturesque town at the foot of the mighty Palamidi Fortress.
After lunch depart for EPIDAURUS, one of Greeces most beautiful and unusual places. Set in the tranquil hills of Argolis are the ruins of the great health, sports and cultural centre of antiquity, with the sancuary of Asklipios - God of Medicine - the Gymnasium, the Stadium and the Theatre - an open air Ampitheatre famed for its excelent acoustics, where a whisper from the stage can be literally heard by a spectator in the theatres topmost 55th row. A Late Afternoon return to Athens. Gala Dinner at the hotel with live entertainment.
A Moonlight Cruise As an alternative, along the Apollo coast. At night the Apollo coast becomes a chain of lights along the eastern shore of Athens. As the cruise ships gently sails through the sea, dine and dance on board, viewing the sunset and coastal lights in a wonderful and romantic enviroment.
An Athenian Farewell During breakfast, prior to departure each guest will receive a farewell gift complimentary of our company. One suggestion is a book of Greek Culinary Delights so that the ladies can prepare some of the many Greek dishes savoured on their return home and a CD with some of the more popular Greek dancing hits with dance steps for the Gentlemen to dance to and be entertained by. Transfer to Athens Airport for departure.
